1966 — The CC Riders with Pat Boone — Miami, Florida

That night, we were on the Jackie Gleason Show with Pat Boone. The night before at the dress rehearsal, I learned my first photographic lesson on dynamic brightness range from the director Frank Bunetta. While Pat was singing (dress rehearsal in front of a live audience), Frank had him take his white bucks (shoes) off and a prop-man spray-painted them light gray. The prop man brought them back while Pat was still singing and I heard Frank say “be careful — they are still a little wet.”

They also asked the CC Riders for our shirt sizes. When we got to the dressing room the next night for the actual show, we all had brand new, duplicate tuxedo shirts — light gray instead of white. I used these examples in my lighting classes at Brooks Institute.
