1990 — Leading a photo safari — Samburu National Reserve, Kenya.
When we finally returned to Nairobi with the intention of flying home, we were informed that all flights were delayed indefinitely. Saddam Hussein had invaded Kuwait. In less than 3 weeks, tourism in Africa had dropped 60 precent — without tourism, the wildlife would not survive. The book project "Focus On Africa” Conservation, Wildlife, and Man was born with the intent of helping in some way to bring back tourism as quickly as possible. We had the cooperation of eight countries, countless guides, tented camps, lodges and travel companies. One hundred and thirty-six photographers came with us on normal tourist safaris to photograph the beauty of Africa. David Bridge formally of National Geographic wrote the text, and Dr. Richard Leaky expressed his appreciation and wrote the foreword.
