I know we wore out at least three "Live at the Apollo” albums by James Brown and the Famous Flames, as we listened again and again to every note, every lick and nuance on the album. Wayne had been close friends with him during his early career, but James had influenced all of us. Now we were actually on stage backing up the man; playing, watching and feeling every move he made — only now it was from behind him. It was certainly a great emotional and music experience I will never forget.
